Office Furniture – A Natural Progression of Comfort and Style

June 1, 2011

In past times,  when working in an office first became the norm, all offices had a similar appearance.  They would be furnished with heavy desks of wood construction, equally cumbersome  straight backed chairs would be provided, with equally unappealing seating for visitors. The décor will have been bleak  and lack luster. No accessories or personal touches would have been allowed as running a business was seen as a solemn affair and was totally disassociated with home.

Following subsequent progression over the years, neither the office nor its furniture  are dingy and utilitarian  any longer. Solemnity is obsolete and the comfort and well being  of the staff advocated with passion. Today’s offices are furnished according to positions and plaudits attained or earned.

Office décor is of paramount importance  and cannot  simply be picked  from a catalogue or brochure.  Whilst a  secretary or personal assistant  may be worth her weight in gold, it surely isn’t their decision alone that should influence what to purchase with regard to office furniture. Predominantly,  the office must reflect position within the company, followed by making an affirmation about individual personalities and interests, accomplishments and victories.  Daring  or striking or restrained and stylish  finishes are of personal taste.

He who tries  hardest and has consummate  plans and visions for the future of the organization  he works for, strives for a prominent position in a prestigious work place.  He may well acquire his own office, to be furnished with high quality furniture in the guise of an executive desk, a leather faced executive chair along with other assorted items.

Pride of place in any office will be the desk. It may be conventional in style and finish or modern and trendy. Either way, as the main feature, it is likely to take over  the room and make a very real proclamation.

The office chair is not now perceived as  just somewhere to sit.  Of course  it has to be functional, but it will now benefit from being designed with the user in mind. Ergonomically constructed, it will complement the user's  body shape, weight and dimensions, offering the perfect positioning to carry out required tasks such as computer programming  or reaching to answer a telephone with ease.

Furthermore,  visitors to the office are no longer expected  to sit on hard, uncomfortable chairs. Lounge areas with soft seating await them with magazine festooned low tables, further atmosphere  being provided by the addition of  large plants and pleasantries such as  pictures and posters.

Office furniture can only have changed this much because people now have  such a different attitude towards work nowadays.
